Activism Initiative with Grace
Please join our activism group and reach out to other local programs to help our community with their ongoing projects. I will set it up ahead of time so we have a couple of options at the beginning of each session. Upon a majority vote, we can all leave from A Space for Grace to volunteer somewhere very nearby in the local effort of our choice. We can also discuss other ways to reach out - suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. Let me know ahead of time if you can attend, then simply show up with an open mind and a couple hours of free time =)

Anyone Can Meditate with Cal
Do you think that you can't meditate, or have wanted to try meditation but don't know where to begin? With simple instruction, massage therapist and energy worker Cal Clark facilitates a class for those who want to realize they already know this art of inner listening. It only takes practice to realize.....

About Cal Clark, LMT, CPP:
Cal is the owner/operator of Present Moment Bodywork and Well Being with an office in the Old Port. Holistic healing has addresses his own personal struggles, and is now his primary therapeutic outlet, while still coinciding with some Western treatment. A native Mainer, he's lived in Portland for over 11 years.
Audio Engineering with Michael
In a nutshell, we will cover basically how sound works in the natural world, through acoustics and waveforms. We will discuss how to capture it using microphones, amplifiers and speakers, as well as how to manipulate it digitally after it’s captured. Then, of course, how to play it back so it sounds amazing. The acoustics part is all theory, just talking about it really. I will demonstrate different microphones, and what different kinds are good for. We will also go over recording programs and software, as well as live sound and the usage of big speakers.
Yoga will be offered at ASFG on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-2pm. These one hour classes will be therapeutic breath and flow based Ashtanga yoga aimed at fostering more physical ease and mental relaxation. Individualized modifications will be offered so that everyone is challenged yet comfortable. If you are a beginner, we will help get you going and if you are experienced, we will offer you options to deepen your practice.
Beginning Guitar with Ethan
Finger dexterity, chord progressions and your favorite song are all important facets of your Guitar education, facets Ethan takes only seriously enough to successfully guide you through these six strings.
Bhangra Dance with Hannah
Bhangra (pronounced "bung-ger-ah") is a high-energy dance form that originated as a folk dance in the fields of Punjab, a region in Northern India. Traditional movements in Bhangra come from the celebration of the harvest, giving Bhangra it's “agrarian” feel. Traditionally a male folk dance, Bhangra is now danced by both men and women, and has been influenced by Western dance and music such as Hip Hop. Instructor Hannah Kramer learned Bhangra dance in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hannah not only teaches, but also travels to Boston weekly to rehearse with the Boston Bhangra dance team. She is excited to spread the joy of Bhangra to the Portland area and beyond!
Essential Oil Aromatherapy with Alegra
This course will introduce essential oil products and educate individuals on how to use them for self-care wellness. Aroma touch will also be a topic explored as an alternative to aide in stress management, immune support and autonomic balance.
Hatha Yoga with Lena
Gentle yoga classes to connect body mind and spirit. We will direct our gaze inward for an hour and fifteen minutes, stretching our bodies and minds, filling our hearts with warmth and love in a comfortable, supportive setting, Beginning with meditation we will move through sun salutations, leading us to strengthening, restorative poses. All the while experiencing the empowering effects of pranayama (breathing exercises). We close the class with chanting to stimulate the chakras for sonic healing, a proven method of increasing energy and mood improvement. All this makes for a perfect way to recharge after a week of hard work and to prepare for next one.
Hula Hooping & Making with Erin
In this class we will explore the origin of hula hoops, and how they've evolved throughout the years. We will be experimenting and making hoops, from regular polypro to what I like to call the splatter paint hoop. We'll be finding, essentially, what your perfect hoop is! Perhaps it will be collapsible, glow in the dark, or even shaped like a heart! The possibilities are endless. Our goal is to make many different and unique hoops, as well as try them out to fit each of us for our own individual style of hooping.
Beginners can start by learning skills ranging in anything from waist hooping to isolations to the pretzel twist!
Introductory Art with Rachel
We will be exploring colors, as we break down each color and its influences toward emotions and symbolic meanings. Each class we will choose a few colors to go over then discuss the different moods and meanings they invoke for a viewer. The aim will be to create certain feelings within the piece, and what you create will be entirely up to you!

Juggling isn’t as hard as it looks when it is broken down into simple steps. Through a series of fun activities, everyone will learn the basics of juggling at their own pace. As progress is made, students will have the opportunity to learn tricks. Juggling stretches and group games will also be a part of this two hour workshop. Use of materials included.
Juggling helps with hand eye coordination, goal setting, self-esteem, creativity, and it is just plain fun!
Salsa with Sergei from Aquarius Ballroom Dance

The word Salsa means sauce, denoting a "hot" flavor, and is best distinguished from other Latin music styles by defining it as the New York sound developed by Puerto Rican musicians in New York. The dance structure is largely associated with mambo type patterns and has a particular feeling that is associated mainly with the Clave and the Montuno.
Self-Defense with Bill
This course will be for beginners who want to learn the basics of self-defense. We will work on fighting stances, simple hand strike variations and kicking techniques. Participants will be actively involved and questions are always welcome.
Spanish Discussion with Grace
¡Hola amigos! Is Spanish something you’re interested in learning but have never had the time or means to do so? Come to A Space for Grace and join me for an informal learning environment where we’ll cover elementary Spanish and develop together as a group. Here we provide a relaxed atmosphere for Spanish discussion with no pressure for anyone without foreign language experience. Native speakers are also welcome to join in and add to the class dynamic. We can all contribute by answering each other’s linguistic questions and helping in proper pronunciation. Bilingualism improves quality of life in so many ways – please join us, and we’ll work toward improving yours!
Women's Self Defense with Evan
A different take on self defense that starts with the thought process behind believing it's ok to defend yourself, moves to vocal self defense, and then to physical techniques in a variety of compromising positions.
Yogathering with Myles
In this 3-part yoga session, we will explore basic and intermediate group stretching and connecting! The name for group yoga is Kaleidoscope. When all of our bodies connect, we can easily stretch out in ways we can not on our own, while forming geometric shapes mirroring one another. This is a fun, hands-on class, no previous yoga experience needed! Together we will relax, release, create.
Entry: $15-$25 sliding scale, to cover the space, session instructor & live musician
We start with a sequence of gentle stretches and movements to warm up our bodies. We continue with a few partner exercises that will release tension in our muscles (if you come alone, don't worry, you'll have someone to partner up with). From there, we cycle into bringing everyone together in a circle and continue the class as one connected body. The last few moments of class we delve into a group meditation.
